Metabolism is the sum of every metabolic process in your body. When your body is healthy, every metabolic process (including digestion, libido, energy levels, quality of sleep, immunity, mood, repair, healing) will be working optimally. When you see many of these processes suffer, it's most likely a sign you should probably do everything in your power to speed it back up!
We didn’t have this perspective on metabolism our whole life, but merely came to the realization through experimenting and doing things that slowed down the metabolism. We thought this was the answer to health & longevity. This is done by things like intermittent fasting, skipping meals, fad diets, eating stress causing foods, over-exercising, and restricting sugar/low carb diets. This simply contributes to the added stress already present in today’s modern world pushing the body more out of balance.
Below is a list of feedback mechanisms you can utilize and simple signs your body will give you to become aware if your metabolic rate is high or low.
Resting Heart Rate 75-90 bpm
Temperature 97.8 upon waking and 98.6 during the day
Warm Hands, Feet, & Ears all-day
1-3 bowel movements daily
Urinating 4-5x a day instead of 10-12x/day
Deep uninterrupted 7-9 hours sleep
Healthy sex drive and hormones
Happy & content feelings
Stable mood and energy levels
Maintaining weight without excessive exercise and dieting
As you begin to speed up your metabolism again you will need to increase the number of food requirements for your body. If you want to slow down the metabolism, then eat a low-calorie diet, remove sugars/carbs, and eat fake/nutritionally void food. This will continue to stress your nervous system and destroy your thyroid driven metabolism.
You might be asking yourself, where do I start? Simply become aware of where your body’s physiology is currently. Tracking your temperature and pulse is the simplest feedback tool that you can use daily. We also recommend reading our previous blog post discussing what metabolically supporting foods to eat. Focus on your mood, increasing energy levels, getting deeper & more restful sleep, as well as the other signs posted above to increase your metabolic rate.
